Antonio Garcia is a student at Seattle State College and a classmate of Maggie Vera's. The two of them start off clashing with each other before eventually becoming friends, when they come to an understanding of each other.
History[]
Early Life[]
Antonio grew up with his two brothers in a noisy environment where if you didn't speak loudest, you wouldn't be heard. Because of this, he sometimes interrupts others to be noticed.[4]
When Antonio was nine years old, he caught his parents having sex in his bedroom. They never talked about it afterwards, but perhaps this emotional shock was the reason for Antonio's obsession with Freud.[5]
Throughout the Series[]
In "You Can't Touch This", Maggie Vera enters Dr. Lawrence's classroom early. He is impressed that Maggie is early and confuses her with his assistant to which she clarifies that she is a new student of his. She makes an effort to engage with him, but Dr. Lawrence ignores her soon as Antonio comes in and they conversed about their shared alma mater. Maggie instantly dislikes Antonio as she knows he'll use his connections to score that internship she wants. She declares to Mel Vera that he is her new nemesis when asked who is he later that day.
The next day, Dr. Lawrence is teaching a class on intimacy. Maggie is called on and lists the types of intimacy, while also theorizing which intimacy types are the strongest. Maggie is about to finish her sentence when Antonio interrupts her with a new theory. Antonio keeps interrupting her until it gets to the point where Maggie snaps back at him. Dr. Lawrence takes his side, calling Maggie rude while she tries to argue that Antonio was the one being rude. She is overcome by the emotions of fear and panic, so she leaves the classroom before a panic attack will happen. Maggie, after some hesitancy with that encounter in the class, decides to put her name in the race for the internship, choosing not to ever get overspoken by any man again... especially by Antonio.
In "Yew Do You", Maggie is in the library looking for an internship topic when Antonio comes in. He asks if she has found an internship topic. Maggie states that she has a couple ideas. Antonio states that he is working on IGD (Intergroup dialogue between diverse populations of students). Maggie compliments his idea. Just then, another DirtDish video of a guy getting run over pops up as notification on Maggie's phone. Antonio comments that there are a lot of crazies in the world before leaving. Later, Maggie says to Macy Vaughn that everything she's researched feels inaccessible and that Antonio probably finished everything by now. Macy tells Maggie not to let him get inside her head, and Maggie declares that she’s trying, but she still can’t find anything.
In "Private Enemy No. 1", Jordan Chase points out Maggie's sign-up sheet has fake names on it, and she instantly blames Antonio as he is also running a group of volunteers. She magically alters his posters to change the phone number he can be reached at. She confronts him over this but is mortified to learn that it was a frat prank. The pranksters were instantly suspended after the school deemed that their "sabotage" of Antonio's posters went too far. He is angry at Maggie for thinking he messed up her sign-up sheet. To make amends, Maggie invites him to SafeSpace, Seattle for a drink, and the two of them clear the air with each other, agreeing to a fresh start as there are already many negative voices in their heads. While drinking, Maggie gets a vision of herself and him in bed together, leaving her stunned.
In "Witch Way Out", Antonio appears in Maggie's dreams and flashbacks. In the first dream, he appears in a towel as Maggie tries to clear her mind. She is afraid of a possible future and does not know how to prevent it.
He later appears in Maggie's flashback of how she met him in SafeSpace, Seattle and snapped at him because of her fears. Maggie quickly apologized for her rudeness and walked away, leaving Antonio completely bewildered by her strange behavior. Maggie's subconscious mind also created two photos where she and Antonio look like a couple, and she did not immediately realize that these pictures are fake.
After being released from the Tomb of Chaos, Maggie again tried to clear her mind, and when Antonio's manifestation reappeared in a towel, she was able to slam the door in front of him, intending to prevent her vision by all means possible.
In "No Hablo Brujeria", Antonio isn't directly seen. However, Maggie mentions that while trying to get in extra volunteer hours at the psych clinic, Antonio was there as well, getting most of the attention. Maggie's first client was someone who only spoke Spanish, and though Maggie isn't fluent, Antonio is, and he translated for them.
In "Witchful Thinking", Antonio is injured in a car accident with the grim prognosis of not surviving his coma. Maggie ensures his survival by getting her allergy back along with her sisters. Harry Greenwood reports back to her that the doctors are baffled by Antonio's miraculous recovery.
In "Spectral Healing", it is revealed that Antonio received a second spot in the coveted internship from Dr. Lawrence, despite not winning as Maggie was given as a result of him not showing up for his presentation in the previous episode. They're looking over profiles for candidates for a trial. After taking a break, he asks Maggie about her dating history, and she jokingly reveals to him that she was engaged to a demon. Antonio thinking Maggie is using a metaphor says that his ex-girlfriend was "a real witch." Maggie nervously chuckles, then he asks her out, leaving Maggie flustered as she utters an excuse to get away from him about accidentally leaving her wallet behind, which has her address on it. He goes to the Vera Manor and encounters Maggie unknown to him possessed by a father-daughter duo of ghosts, Daisy and Roger, whose disagreement magically knocks him out. After his first coming, he dances with Daisy to help her unfinished business of getting a dance from a cute guy to move on. Antonio is stunned to see Daisy's ghost come out of Maggie. As he's stuttering, Maggie uses her power to send him off to sleep. After Antonio wakes up a second time, Macy and Maggie maintain the cover story of his concussion, and he apologizes to Maggie for making things awkward by asking her out; however, she thanks him as he gave her the much-needed clarity to ask out Jordan.
In "What to Expect When You're Expecting the Apocalypse", after being led to believe Antonio is the Whispering Evil, Maggie douses him with the Truth Serum. While the serum makes him confess to being at SafeSpace earlier, he also tells Maggie how he feels a sexual chemistry between them, prompting her to overdose him with truth serum. The overdose prompts Antonio to confess feelings for Maggie and other things he faced in life, such as walking in on his parents having sex in his bedroom. Maggie then asks Harry to deliver lotus flower roots to help him detox. After eating some, Antonio calms down, and Harry assures Maggie that he won't remember anything.
Personality[]
Antonio is overly confident but charming. He tends to talk loud and interrupt other students, a trait he picked up from childhood since his family always had to talk louder than one another to make themselves seen.
Physical Appearance[]
Antonio is a handsome dusky man, appearing to be in his twenties in age, with brown eyes and dark brown hair.
Relationships[]
- Antonio and Maggie Vera: Maggie first met Antonio in psychology class at Seattle State College. Initially gotten off on the wrong foot, Maggie and Antonio made peace after admitting that she felt insecure around him, to which he replied that she made him feel insecure as well. Despite this, Maggie tried to avoid him after having a vision of them in bed, which confused her for a time. Antonio tried to ask her out, but she turned him down due to her feelings for Jordan. Maggie also admitted there was chemistry between herself and Antonio, but she didn't want to be with someone who constantly made her feel unsafe. Also, like Maggie, Antonio has two siblings.
