Black Orbing is a variation of the power of orbing, allowing the user to orb through a puff of black smoke. This power seems to be exclusive to Darklighters.
Overview[]
Black Orbing is assumed to be a basic power of all Darklighters. The power works similarly to regular orbing, but with a more smokey effect, even to the point of being able to take passengers.
Jimmy has demonstrated that a Darklighter can disguise their orbing to appear more like a Whitelighter's. In "Deconstructing Harry", when he came for Macy Vaughn, there was no black smoke around his orb, making it easier for him to trick Macy into believing he was Harry Greenwood.

- In the rebooted Charmed series, the visual effects of this power suggest that it would be more accurately named "Smoke-Orbing." However, a similar inconsistency was present in the original Charmed series. Although this power was referred to as "Black Orbing," the orbs were primarily dark blue and indigo in color.
- In "Deconstructing Harry", when Jimmy came for Macy, this power had nothing but an effortless haze and a complete absence of anything black and dark shades. It can be presumed that he was somehow able to disguise his power in order to trick Macy into believing he was Harry.
- In its first appearance during the original series, this power had something of a smoking effect whenever Alec used it.
- Given that Black Orbing was a power exclusive to Darklighters and the last of their kind was killed in battle with his good counterpart in Season 3, it is reasonable to conclude that this ability ceased to exist with their demise.
- It should be noted that Jimmy was the only Darklighter depicted as having this particular power, while Helen McGantry's Darklighter never demonstrated any magical abilities in any form. This discrepancy could be attributed to the fact that Harry and Helen's Darklighters were the only ones shown to be given a corporeal, physical form. It's possible that Helen's Darklighter either never possessed any magical abilities or, if she did, her powers were at some point bound. Therefore, Jimmy may be the only Darklighter to have ever developed and exhibited this specific power.
