Black Orbing is a variation of the power of orbing, allowing the user to orb through a puff of black smoke. This power seems to be exclusive to Darklighters.

Black Orbing is assumed to be a basic power of all Darklighters. The power works similarly to regular orbing, but with a more smokey effect, even to the point of being able to take passengers.
Harry Greenwood's Darklighter has demonstrated that a Darklighter can disguise their orbing to appear more like a Whitelighter's. In Deconstructing Harry, when Jimmy came for Macy Vaughn, there was no black smoke around his orb, making it easier for him to trick Macy into believing he was Harry.

- In the reboot, the visual effects of this power show that it would be closer to the name "Smoke-Orbing." However, in the original series, this inconsistency also had a similar moment, since there, although this power was called "Black Orbing," in reality this orbs had a dark blue and indigo colors for the most part.
- In Deconstructing Harry, when Jimmy came for Macy, this power had nothing but a effortless haze and a complete absence of anything black and dark shades.
- In its first appearance of the original, this power had something of a smoking effect whenever Alec used it.
- Since this power belonged exclusively to Darklighters and the last of them went extinct in season 3, it is assumed that Black Orbing went extinct with them.
