Camellia is a muse and was the wife of Roxie. She is known for her passion for dancing, which she uses to activate her power. Some time ago, Camellia left Roxie during one of her wife's seven years away with Duncan faking that she had died during a demon attack.

History[]

Early Life[]

Camellia and Roxie met under unknown circumstances, got married and lived happily for a while. During the early days of their relationship, Roxie opened a club – the Blue Camellia – exclusively for magical patrons, naming it after her wife. Camellia sang and danced in her wife's club and on March 3, 1926, during Roxie's seven year sleep, she almost died at the hands of the Vittra until time-traveling Maggie Vera and Kaela Danso rescued her. Roxie was grateful to them, even though she didn't know their identities at the time.

Despite a happy marriage with Roxie, the loneliness and isolation eventually took a toll on Camellia, as she and Roxie could only be together for one year and at the end of which the latter would have to sleep for another seven, and repeatedly did so over the decades. Camellia did her best to maintain her marriage and the bar, and hide her emotional wounds from Roxie when she was around. They took in orphaned Duncan, who helped her take care of the place, but it wasn't enough to lift Camellia's spirits. The place had become a prison for her.

One day, demons broke into the bar looking for banshees. A fight erupted and nearly destroyed the bar. Camellia did her best to protect it, but in the aftermath, she finally had enough and left for locations unknown. Not wanting Roxie to close the bar and leave supernatural creatures unprotected, he told Roxie that Camellia had died in the attack.

Throughout the Series[]

In "Unlucky Charmed", Roxie indirectly mentions her wife to Harry.

In "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Sandwich", Maggie Vera and Kaela Danso are accidentally sent back to 1926 by Mel Vera, and the aforementioned events happened.

In "Hashing It Out", Roxie asked Harry Greenwood to find Camellia in the Veil and bring her back temporarily so that she may have closure with her wife. Duncan gave her a scarf that supposedly had Camellia's blood on it. However, when Harry found a banshee in the Veil instead of Camellia, he realized that something was amiss and confronted Duncan about it. Eventually, Harry and Roxie both found out that Camellia wasn't killed that night and that she had just left as she was unable to bear the struggles of her relationship with Roxie anymore. Duncan had faked her death so that Roxie wouldn't find out that she was abandoned and didn't close the bar. Duncan also revealed that he does not know where Camellia is now or if she is alive at all, since he never saw her again after she left.

In "The End Is Never The End", Roxie and Mel talk before the former leaves for her seven-year-long slumber. Roxie worries about Mel's feelings, saying that her last relationship didn't end well.

Trivia[]

  • Roxie's club is named after Camellia.
  • Camellia's power may be based on two of the nine Muses in Greek mythology.
    • One is Terpsichore (Τερψιχόρη, τέρπω + χορός = delight in dancing), the Muse of dance and music. She was believed to amuse people through her dancing, similarly to Camellia.
    • The other is Erato (Ερατώ, ἔρως = romantic love), who was the Muse of lyric and erotic poetry or hymns, protector of love and marriage. Since Camellia can induce sexual arousal, it is possible that she is also based on Erato.
