The Chiriji is a Yoruba ritual used to draw the "ibi" (darkness) out of others, thereby removing all demonic influences. This spell requires a sacrifice; a small animal will do to purify a single person, but a human sacrifice is needed to purify many people. In the latter case, the caster can sacrifice themselves to the same effect.
According to Galvin Burdette, his grandmother lost a finger while performing the ritual.[1]
Overview[]
A symbol of the cowrie shell is to be drawn on the ground. Once the ritual begins, none shall be able to break it. Any person afflicted by supernatural illnesses, such as the Harbinger of Hell or the demonic aspects within a person, will be cured immediately and indefinitely.
History[]
In "Red Rain", Galvin Burdette performed the ritual to save the Harbinger's victims at the Hilltowne University Hospital. Harry Greenwood and Macy Vaughn tried to stop him, but the symbol on the ground generated a force field that kept them out. The spell pulled out Galvin's life force and produced a smoke-like mist which cured everyone in Hilltowne, including Niko Hamada.
Incantation[]

Trivia[]
- While the ritual was effective in curing the many Hilltowne innocents from the Harbinger's virus, it was unable to remove the demonic aspects of Macy Vaughn who was also present at the time of the casting. This is probably due to it not being his intention at the time.
- Apparently, the ritual is not fatal if it is not used to purify a large number of people, but it is still dangerous for the user, since Galvin's grandmother lost her finger while performing it.
