Charmed Wiki

The Chupa-Alma was an unidentified monster that possessed each of the Vera-Vaughn Charmed Ones in order to utilize the Power of Three to restore its destroyed body and resurrect itself. It proved only a brief threat before being vanquished once and for all by the combined efforts of the Charmed Ones.

History[]

Early Life[]

Many thousands of years ago, this creature roamed the Earth filled with many dangerous, chaotic beings. At some point, it was killed in an unknown way and its bones were hidden. It can be presumed that its violent spiritual essence was imprisoned within the Tomb of Chaos by the Perfecti, where it would remain for over twenty thousand years before the Vera-Vaughn Charmed Ones blasted a hole in the tomb by merging the power of the Source with the Black Amber Tree beneath the Command Center in 2021.

Throughout the Series[]

In "You Can't Touch This", the Chupa-Alma's spirit first possessed Mel and Maggie Vera, causing them to unknowingly dig up bones and carry them back to the Command Center. When the spirit found and possessed Macy Vaughn, it forced her to cut her hand and let her blood pour onto the pile of bones while chanting an incantation that made the bones and blood combine, magically restoring the Chupa-Alma's body in a swirling cloud of lightning, thunder, and smoke. It escaped with Harry Greenwood in tow before Macy and her sisters realized what actually happened, but with quick thinking she deduced that since it possessed them it possibly contracted the allergy also, and with the allergy-spotting spell she invented for the witchboard, she found their location and they portaled in.

The monster was close to attacking Mel and Maggie before Macy stepped in and immobilized it using her power. Focused, the wall of telekinetic energy she blasted was stable, but the "Soul Sucker" was too strong for her, slipping from her grasp. Maggie got in formation with her power of Emotional Inception and calmed it down so that Mel could finish it off by accelerating its molecules to the point of combustion to which it exploded, leaving a distinctly unusual symbol burned into the ground where it stood.

While attempting to escape the Tomb of Chaos in "Witch Way Out", the sisters encountered the Chupa-Alma in front of their exit as the tomb tried to keep them inside. However, knowing that they had already defeated the monster, the three of them figured that it was only an illusion, ran towards its projection, and jumped through the portal out of the tomb.

Physical Appearance[]

The monster resembled a huge frog with more elongated limbs. It had black skin, huge white fangs, black claws, and an unnaturally long lilac tongue. It also had large yellow-black eyes that were shaped like the eyes of a fly.

Powers and Abilities[]

Active Powers
  • Tongue Elasticity: The monster was able to extend its tongue to attack its enemies.
  • Venom Secretion: The monster inflicted a wound on Harry, the poison from which put his body into a state of septic shock. Macy was only able to neutralize the poison with the help of the Blood Cleansing Potion.
Inactive Powers
  • Resistance: The ability to withstand physical and magical attacks. This monster was able to resist Macy's power.
Former Powers
  • Possession: As a spiritual being before reclaiming its body, the monster was powerful enough to possess the Charmed Ones and make them do what it wanted.
    • The Power of Three: While possessing each of the Vera-Vaughn sisters, the Chupa-Alma gained access to the Power of Three as well.

Weaknesses[]

  • Extreme Heat: The monster was shown to be easily vanquished by a heat-based power, such as when Mel used her molecular acceleration on it and overheated the monster to the point of combustion.
  • Magic: The Chupa-Alma is vulnerable to magic and magical attacks.
    • Magical Allergy: While possessing each of the Vera-Vaughn sisterhood of the Charmed Ones, the monster also got infected with their allergy to magical creatures and even those infected by magic. This allowed the Vera-Vaughn sisters to track the monster after it disappeared with Harry Greenwood.
    • Telekinetic Immobilization: Even though with some resistance to this power, the monster was still temporarily immobilized by it.
    • Emotional Inception: The monster was immediately affected by Maggie's power, which caused it to be apathetic enough and not resist Macy's attack.
    • Molecular Manipulation: The monster was immediately affected by Mel's power, without showing any signs of resistance to it.

Appearances[]

Trivia[]

  • Chupa-Alma, meaning "soul-sucker," is the name the monster got from Mel Vera posthumously.
    • Interestingly, the creature was never shown absorbing any souls, but instead possessing bodies while in its own spirit form.
    • There's a possibility that Mel based the name of this creature on the "Chupacabra," "the "Goat Sucker," which is a creature with a similar name deriving from Hispanic folklore. It also appears to be similar in appearance as it is described to be a reptilian-alien-like creature with spines on its back (or in other cases, a coyote-like creature with spines).
  • This monster is more ancient than human civilization. In the comic continuation of the original series, the Charmed Ones faced off against the Old Ones, a powerful race of primordial demons predating written word.
