My dad was never "Dexter." He was just "Dad"... or "Sir" when I was in trouble.
— Macy describing her dad

Dexter B.[2] Vaughn was the biological father of Charmed Ones, Macy Vaughn and Maggie Vera, and was a former lover of Marisol Vera. In 2016, he was killed by the curse of the Unity Bowl, while trying to reassemble the ancient artifact in an attempt to break the curse of Necromancy that was keeping his family apart.

History[]

Early Life[]

At some point, Dexter met and fell in love with Marisol and was aware that she was a witch. They conceived their first-born daughter, Macy Vaughn, together who turned out to be a stillborn. Heartbroken over the loss of his daughter, Dexter stood by a desperate and grieving Marisol when she freed the Necromancer Knansie from Tartarus to resurrect Macy with Necromancy.[3]

When Macy was two years old, Marisol left them both since their time as a family was up per the Necromancer's deal. After lying to Macy about her mother passing away, he went on to raise her by himself.[4]

He and Marisol kept in touch via letters. Since Marisol's husband, Ray Vera, was often away for work, she was left at home to care for Mel. This made her lonely and ultimately reconnected with Dexter. Together, they conceived Maggie Vera during New Years of 2000, whom he was aware of. Ray became aware of the affair, eventually leading to his divorce with Marisol.[1][5]

He sent Macy to boarding school in ninth grade.[6] When Macy was twenty years old and indecisive about her career goals, she accidentally shot fire out of her hands. That night, she told Dexter about it. Dexter in turn reached out to Marisol and arranged a meeting for them, using a blanket to keep the two from seeing each other. When Macy tried to rip it off, Dexter stopped her and waited until she calmed down before leaving the room.[7]

He came to hear of a powerful artifact known as the Unity Bowl, which could undo any curse, including one placed by a Necromancer. Desperate for himself and Macy to be able to become a family with Marisol and Maggie, Dexter tried to find the bowl. He managed to find one half of it, but because it was cursed to kill any human who touched it, he fell ill. Macy, believing he was dying of cancer, tried to donate her stem cells to him through the Progenitor Project, but it did not help.[2]

He eventually passed away in 2016, and Macy had been living on her own until she united with her sisters in 2018.[1]

Throughout the Series[]

In "Pilot", Galvin asked Macy what she knew about her mom from Dexter. She says, she died when she was two. However, that was a lie.

In "Sweet Tooth", Macy told Maggie about how Dexter sent her to boarding school when she was nine years old. She didn't want to go, but he was adamant and firm.

In "Kappa Spirit", he was indirectly referenced when Mel and Maggie eavesdropped on Marisol’s conversation with her friend.

In "Jingle Hell", Macy mentioned that she could never imagine calling her father by his first name, revealing it to be Dexter, after learning of Mel’s preference to call her estranged father only by his first name.

In "Keep Calm and Harry On", Macy mentioned Dexter being moody while comparing him to Alastor, who was worse.

In "Witch Perfect", Macy found a box full of letters from Dexter to Marisol after casting The Full Disclosure. In one of many letters, she and Maggie found out that mentioned Dexter fearing that Macy would never forgive them for what they did to bring her back from the dead. This revelation left her traumatized.

In "You're Dead to Me", Dexter was seen in a flashback with Marisol when she freed a necromancer named Knansie in order to save their stillborn daughter, Macy. Dexter was worried throughout the ordeal but was unable to do anything to stop the transaction. Marisol was adamant about resurrecting their daughter. Mel later read one of Dexter's letters.

In "The Replacement", TBA

In "Ambush", TBA

In "The Source Awakens", Maggie mentioned Dexter when she mentioned the number of people who left Macy, which drove her to constantly changing reality where Marisol was alive and then wished herself dead.

In "Curse Words", TBA

In "Don't Look Back in Anger", Dexter appeared in a flashback when Macy was accidentally placed in a dream. Dexter heard from Macy that she had accidentally set someone on fire. Worried, he contacted Marisol for help. He was there to keep Macy and Marisol from seeing each other while the latter talked with Macy about suppressing her emotions in order to keep herself from hurting people.

In "I Dreamed a Dream…", Macy mentions Dexter taking her to a carnival every year when she was young, and she would look at all the families, and wished she had a sister to go on rides with her.

In "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Sandwich", Kaela and Maggie talked about Dexter and Marisol while they were discussing their respective childhoods.

In "Unveiled", Harry Greenwood entered the Veil and met Dexter. They discussed the situation before a monster tried to take Harry. Dexter did his best to protect him, then accidentally left the Veil with Harry. This allowed Dexter to resurrect in the land of the living.

In "Truth or Cares", Dexter started looking through the house for the hidden half of the Unity Bowl. He met Maggie for the first time, then fought with Ray Vera before Maggie and Jordan Chase stopped them. Because both men hated each other, the tension was high. Dexter's presence also caused magic to throw off balance, causing Trunksie to come to life when a deadly potion was accidentally spilled on it. The elephant stole the bowl, then tried to kill the trio when Maggie failed to put it to sleep. Dexter and Ray finally worked together and helped Maggie find a spell to reverse the imbalance by killing everything that shouldn't be alive. The spell deaminated Trunksie and sent Dexter back to the Veil. After curing Ray, who was cursed by the same deadly curse, he and Maggie made a toast to Dexter.

In "Divine Secrets of the O.G. Sisterhood", TBA

In "The End Is Never The End", it was revealed in Joséfina Reyes and Harry's conversation that Dexter had found peace and moved on from the Veil.

Personality[]

According to Macy, Dexter was strict, direct, and never one to talk about emotions, and had taught Macy to be independent. However, he was still a truly loving and devoted father to her - he took her to the carnival every summer, and even when upset with her, he was still "on her side", and would do his best to comfort her if she was truly shaken or at a loss.

Relationships[]

Family[]

  • Macy Vaughn: After Marisol was forced to abandon Macy when she was just two, Dexter lied to Macy, claiming that she died and went on to raise her alone. Years later, as an adult, Macy learnt the devastating truth about why Marisol had left her.
  • Maggie Vera: Dexter was aware that he had fathered Macy's baby sister, Maggie, whom he finally was able to meet after he was accidentally brought from the Veil back to the land of the living, albeit temporarily.

Romantic Life[]

  • Marisol and Dexter: It is unknown how long their relationship lasted. Marisol and Dexter made a deal with a Necromancer to save Macy's life, and if Marisol sees Macy, then Macy will die. Marisol was forced to leave. Macy later learned in a series of letters Marisol and Dexter wrote to each other that they were madly in love with each other. The two of them had conceived Maggie during New Years of 2000.
