Francesca's manifestation appeared again in "Chaos Theory", tormenting Abigael in the Tomb in order to keep her inside. When called as a witness by the Perfecti during a trial to determine if Abigael belongs in the Tomb of Chaos, the real Francesca testified against her daughter by claiming she was always a destructive girl who rebelled against any form of authority. When Mel questioned against this, pointing out that Abigael had told her Francesca was a horrible mother who tried to 'fix' her daughter, Francesca angrily stated that Abigael was just like her father, cold and manipulative. She also answered that she would punish Abigael when she disobeyed. Mel wondered how she was punished, but when Francesca didn't answer, Abigael said she used shock cuffs. Francesca, however, stated it was usual to use Power Cuffs on hybrid children. Mel asked if Abigael was punished when using her witch magic, only for Abigael to speak out and say that, regardless of the type of magic she used, Francesca would punish her, because witch or demon, Francesca did not care; she only saw Abigael's demon half, when all Abigael wanted was for her to love her like she did Waverly.

According to Abigael, Francesca was a horrible mother who forced her to practice witchcraft in order to eliminate Abigael's demonic tendencies. It seems that Francesca was also a harsh and cruel woman, as she abandoned her daughter when Abigael did not live up to her expectations. When Abigael was younger, she would routinely punish Abigael by shocking her with cuffs whenever she disobeyed; according to Abigael, Francesca would do this regardless of the type of magic she used.

Never forget, love is the real magic...
Kisses,
Francesca
— Message of Francesca in her potion book[src]

Francesca Jameson is a witch and an ex-lover of the demon Alastor. She is the mother of Abigael Jameson-Caine and Waverly Jameson, as well as the grandmother of Lydia Jameson.

History

Early Life

Many years ago, Francesca met the ancient demon Alastor. Through him, she gave birth to her daughter, Abigael Jameson-Caine. Francesca and Alastor separated for unknown reasons and she had to raise her daughter alone in Sussex, England.[3]

Francesca and Abigael had severe relationship: she imposed on her daughter of witchcraft, trying to fix her demonic side with every magical means possible. But when that didn't work out, Francesca gave up her daughter perhaps by driving her out of their home.[4]

When Abigael was 13, Francesca gave birth to another daughter, Waverly, by an unknown man. She wouldn't let her eldest daughter touch the baby, but when Waverly was three, Abigael still snuck into Waverly's room and almost burned her alive. Later, Francesca turned to the Elders to rid her elder daughter of her demonic side, and when Abigael found out about it, she trapped her mother and little sister into the house and almost burned them alive.[5] Somehow, Francesca managed to save herself and Waverly, and she also managed to rid Abigael of her demonic form and imprison that darkness in a totem.[6] After that, 16-year-old Abigael was permanently banished from their home and lost contact with her mother and sister.[7]

After that Abigael took Francesca's potion book, going as far as stating it was "one of her favorite potion books".[8]

Many years later, the grown-up Waverly gave birth to her daughter Lydia. Due to the unusual powers of the child, Francesca began hunting her granddaughter, which prompted Waverly to take her daughter and start hiding from her mother.[1]

Throughout the Series

In "Careful What You Witch For", TBA

In "Deconstructing Harry", Abigael mentioned Francesca in passing when she told Mel Vera and Macy Vaughn that she and her mother had lived in Sussex, England.

In "Dance Like No One is Witching", Francesca's book helped her daughter and Mel save Harry Greenwood. Also, Abigael mentioned to Mel that she wasn't the only one whose mother had died.

In "Search Party", during an argument with Mel, Abigael mentioned that Francesca was horrible mother and she wasn't "perfect" as the mother of the Charmed Ones.

In "Triage", it was revealed that her other daughter kept a strange totem that supposedly contained Abigael's demonic side. When Jordan Chase came to her sister at Abigael's request, she refused to go out, but in the end decided to give this item along with a letter. Abigael receives a letter from her hidden sister, who asks her not to try to contact her and their mother again, as they both want nothing to do with Abigael. This letter gives the impression that Francesca is still alive.

While explaining to Mel Vera about her demonic form in "Private Enemy No. 1", Abigael stated that one of her mother's 'rituals' to suppress her demon side was binding Abigael's demonic form, keeping it inside the totem that Jordan retrieved from Abigael's sister.

In "Spectral Healing", Francesca's manifestation appears in Abigael's prison cell in the Tomb of Chaos.

In "What to Expect When You're Expecting the Apocalypse", Abigael kidnapped her sister for help in getting the Blade of Clarity from Francesca. After the two sisters found against a common enemy sent by their mother to locate her granddaughter, Waverly agreed to help Abigael get the blade. Mel told them that Francesca had pitted them against each other, but old narratives can be rewritten.

In "The Storm Before the Calm", Macy Vaughn and Abigael broke into Francesca's countryhouse in Sussex, where they find the Blade of Clarity and attempt to transfer Macy's demonic powers back into herself, but the spell failed. Francesca then appears and tells them that she had enchanted it to only listen to her voice. She offered to restore Macy's powers if she would kill her daughter. Macy refused, and Francesca transported her away. As she readied to slit her daughter's throat, Waverly appeared from behind and took the blade from her. Macy arrived moments later to stop Francesca from attacking her daughters. She refused to unlock the blade despite the disadvantage, prompting Waverly to point the blade at her throat. This intimidates her enough to comply.

Personality

According to Abigael, Francesca was a horrible mother who forced her to practice witchcraft in order to eliminate Abigael's demonic tendencies. Francesca also used magic to bind Abigael's demon form, containing it inside a small totem.

Still, her words written in her potion book indicate that Francesca once believed in the power of love. However, it is not known whether these words were written before or after her encounter with Alastor.

Unlike with Abigael, Francesca loves her other daughter, Waverly Jameson. In addition, they both agree in their desire to have nothing to do with Abigael. This desire is so strong that they gave her the magic totem, if only Abigael's would no longer have a reason to bother them both.

However, it later turned out that Francesca is a power-hungry witch who is ready to harm even her own granddaughter if it allows her to get what she wants. She also has a certain hypocrisy, because hating demons, she is ready to work with them to achieve her ambitions. The hunt for Lydia's powers also shows that Francesca seems stubbornly unwilling to grow old and is probably already doing everything to delay or perhaps completely stop this unpleasant process.

Powers and Abilities

Basic Powers
Active Powers
  • Translocation: The ability to teleport objects and beings without physical contact.
  • Electrokinesis: The ability to generate and control electricity. Francesca was shown to be able to create an electrical storm within a specific room or area.
  • Limited Shapeshifting: The ability to alter one's physical appearance. Francesca has been shown to be able to make her eyes glow a bright red.

Equipment

  • Her potion book (formerly): A small book containing many potions, such as the antidote for the Malignent's demonic parasite. Abigael took the book with her when she was kicked out of the house.
  • Blade of Clarity: The Blade was given to her along with a totem by the Elders. With them, Francesca was able to forcibly remove Abigael's demonic form and transfer it into the totem. She gave the totem to Waverly for safekeeping while keeping the blade herself.

Relationships

Family

  • Francesca and Abigael Jameson-Caine: A hostile mother-daughter relationship. Francesca wasn't close to her daughter, and she never even told her if Abigael was a love child, an accidental pregnancy or an unwanted spawn.[9] Abigael did not have a good relationship with her mother, because Francesca cast her out for being half-demon. Her mother's hostility is the reason why Abigael despises all witches and is more drawn to the demonic world.
  • Francesca and Waverly Jameson: They had a good relationship, Francesca always took care of Waverly and protected her from Abigael. She also trusted Waverly enough to give her the demonic totem when she became old enough and started practicing witchcraft. In return, Waverly supports her mother and agrees with her on many things, especially regarding Abigael's exile. However, at some point their relationship soured due to the birth of Lydia Jameson, whose powers Francesca wanted to get for herself. Waverly began to hide from her mother to protect her daughter, and Francesca began to hunt Waverly and even send demons for her head.

Romantic Life

  • Francesca and Alastor: Their relationship is shrouded in mystery. It is still unknown how the two met and how long their relationship lasted. But at some point after that, Francesca began to hate their daughter Abigael for being like her father and tried to fix her. However, Francesca left beautiful words about love in her potion book, implying that she did not always hate Alastor, and perhaps even continued to love him somewhere deep inside of her.

Trivia

  • It is unknown who the father of Francesca's other daughter, Waverly, is.
  • In Dance Like No One is Witching, Abigael told Mel Vera that she had lost her mother, just as Mel had lost hers, implying that Francesca was dead. However, in Triage, Abigael's sister wrote in a letter about their mother as if she was still alive. As shown in Chaos Theory, while Francesca is indeed alive, Abigael considers her dead to her.
  • In Spectral Healing and Chaos Theory, a Tomb of Chaos manifestation of Francesca used telekinesis. It implies the woman herself has the same power, but as of now this is unconfirmed.
  • The nickname "Mummy Dearest" that Abigael called Francesca in What to Expect When You're Expecting the Apocalypse is most likely a reference to "Mommie Dearest", a tell-all autobiography and later film by Christina Crawford, who details an abusive childhood at the hands of her mother, actress Joan Crawford.
  • The nature of Francesca's bright red eyes shown in The Storm Before the Calm has never been explained. Although, it's been shown that some witches' eyes may glow when activating their powers, the odd thing that stands out with Francesca's eyes, is the fact that she also has dark circles around her eyes, making them appear demonic.
    • This could be a sign that she may be using dark magic or maybe it's an additional power that simply allows her to intimidate her enemies.
