Guess Who's Coming to SafeSpace Seattle is the ninth episode of the second season of Charmed and the thirty-first episode of the series overall. It aired on January 17, 2020.
Synopsis[]
EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED — Maggie (Sarah Jeffery) and Mel (Melonie Diaz) make a startling discovery that turns their world upside down; Macy's (Madeleine Mantock) chance encounter with a SafeSpace investor (Eric Balfour) takes an unexpected turn. Rupert Evans and Jordan Donica also star.
Plot[]
Maggie continues training with Jordan, while Mel practices using her new power, but Mel doesn't approve of her spending time with him, but her sister declares that after the story with [[Parker], she doesn't want relationships. She then has a vision in which she discovers the return of his Darklighter. Macy continues to experiment with black amber, but to no avail. Her sisters inform her that she thinks the darklighter is in a motel in Newark, New Jersey, and the group decides to go and confront him, but Macy is hesitant, not wanting to face him again, so Maggie has her take over the job. During the tour of SafeSpace, the girl has trouble with the questions of one of the visitors, while Lola tries to convince Jordan to stay away from Maggie. Macy discovers that the unwelcome visitor on the tour was Julian Shea, SafeSpace's new majority shareholder. However, he appears friendly. Arriving at the motel of Maggie's vision, however, they run into Ray Vera, who is incredulous at seeing his daughters alive. Harry initially believes that it is someone impersonating him, but the two sisters realize that it is him, and Harry agrees to leave them alone with him.
Ray then reveals that he is in the antique black market and that he has people after him and that it is better for them to leave, but they start rummaging through his things to find a chakram that appeared in Maggie's vision. At that moment Harry informs them that there is someone approaching in a threatening manner, so Harry knocks Ray out and teleports everyone to the manor.
Macy meanwhile listens to a speech by Julian and is impressed; however, when she finds out that he wants to create suburban farms underground, starting right under SafeSpace, this implies that he will find the Command Center.
In order to learn more about Julian's plans, Macy invites him to dinner, and he accepts. Ray is forced to accept the truth after receiving a practical demonstration from Mel and is fascinated by it. Macy arrives shortly after, and the sisters exchange information. She then decides to use the influence potion on the billionaire to stop his project. Meanwile, Jordan does online research on Maggie and Parker and discovers that the former is believed to be dead.
Ray then says that he stole some of Marisol's items after her death, while he was in a bad moment, but that he didn't tell the buyers of a talisman where he got it, not wanting it to reach his daughters. When the house burned down, Ray returned to look for his daughters and found the chakram sold to the same buyers, and, believing they had killed Mel and Maggie, he pretended to be dead so as not to end up like them.
The Whitelighter finds a box among the man's belongings, and Mel and Maggie open it with a spell, and it reveals that it contains a battering ram that generates a shockwave that engulfs everyone present. This destroys the cover, so Harry decides to try to recreate it and goes to the command center with Mel, while Maggie stays with Ray. Meanwhile, Macy manages to influence Julian, and Ray explains to Maggie that he left simply because it didn't work out between him and Marisol, but she points out that he was never there as a father to her and Mel.
Harry and Mel discover that Ray has escaped with the Stone of Atreus, a protective totem that protected the island of Crete, and that its guardian, the Fury, will recover it at all costs, and they deduce that he is the one following Ray. Eventually Ray apologizes to Maggie, and she has a premonition of him being attacked by the Fury that arrives at that moment. She tries to defend him, while Harry and Mel rescue Macy, tearing her away from her date, and Harry realizes that she is enjoying it. Having reached him and Maggie, Harry tells Ray to give the stone to the monster, and when Maggie is attacked, he steps in to protect her, but eventually gives it back, and the fury goes away.
The next day Jordan decides to talk to Maggie, but when he follows her, he doesn't find her because she has entered the command center.

References to the Original Charmed[]
- A Fury appears in this episode. In the original series, the furies were three female demons who targeted evildoers (regardless of how trivial or grand), and transformed one of the Halliwell sisters into one of them to replace the one they'd lost. They teleported in smoke and exhaled deadly smoke to kill their targets.
- The furies possess the power of replication, similar to the power of cloning, in the original series.
- The fury's replicative power is activated through physical attacks. The Ravaging Man-Beast from the novel, Demon Doppelgangers, could clone itself through such methods as well. Once replicated, they become immune to the attack they already experienced.
- Mel learns to harness her power to generate heat. In the comics, Piper developed the power of molecular acceleration 9 years after her powers awoke.
- Maggie learns that her power works by touching something with emotional attachment to the person, just like how Phoebe's power worked.
- Julian Shea who was introduced, shares many similarities with Jason Dean from the original series. Both are rich, work in a managerial role of one of the sisters, and both are romantically linked to said sister.
- When Ray finds out that his daughters are still alive and the Vera Manor is still standing, expressing his disbelief about all of this, it could be a nod to the fact the Halliwell Manor blew up in the penultimate episode of season 8.
- This episode deals with the complex father-daughters relationship of the Vera family, much like the original series' episode, "Thank You For Not Morphing", which dealt with the return of the Halliwell's father, after a long absence.
- Ray Vera returns with a magical protection totem, much like Victor in the original series, who possessed a magical protection ring.
Production Notes[]
- The episode was watched by 0.65 million U.S. viewers.
- Eric Balfour joins the recurring cast starting with this episode.
Quotes[]
Maggie (to Ray): I do remember. Looking at the stars with you. It's one of my favorite memories. It hurt so bad when you left.
