There is another. She's out there.
The Guardian about the new Charmed One[src]

Michaela "Kaela" Danso is a neophyte witch who, due to stem cells donated by Macy Vaughn during her cancer treatment, became a Charmed One and restored the Power of Three with Mel and Maggie Vera after Macy's death. She is the middle sister of the Vera-Danso sisterhood, meaning it is her duty to protect innocents and occasionally save the world. She is the biological daughter of Zephyr and Carolyn Vales, who was adopted by the mortal Ghanaian couple, Mr. and Mrs. Danso soon after her birth. She is also best friends with Brynn. Following the discovery of her destiny, she relocated to Seattle, where she moved into her bus at the Vera Manor.

Kaela is a witch with heightened abilities, due to her being a Charmed One. Along with her basic witch abilities (casting spells and brewing potions), Kaela is also a manifestor; meaning she has the ability to bring her artistic creations to life and manifest things into reality. Furthermore, she can also access the Power of Three, the collective power of the Charmed Ones, allowing them to vanquish the most powerful of evil beings, such as demons.

History[]

Early Life[]

Nothing is known about her other than the fact that she was born on December 11, 1995 to the mortal couple, Zephyr and Carolyn Vales, and was left at a fire station in Philadelphia with no known name. She was adopted, named, and raised by a Ghanaian couple, Mr. Danso and Evelyn Danso.

Kaela didn't learn she was adopted until the age of 12.[2] In high school, she occasionally worked as a night watch person.[3]

Prior to 2016, Kaela was diagnosed with leukemia and not responding well to the traditional chemotherapy. Her doctors recommended an experimental treatment called "the Progenitor Project" which she was accepted into. This treatment eventually saved Kaela's life, due to Macy Vaughn donating her stem cells during Kaela's cancer treatment. Kaela became a witch with dormant magical powers with her cancer going into remission in 2016-2017.[4] Five other people had received Macy's stem cells, but none of them developed magical powers or became Charmed Ones.[5]

Sometime between 2021-2022 (presumably after the death of Macy Vaughn), Kaela started having dreams about Mel and Maggie Vera, the Command Center and presumably the exploits of the Charmed Ones. She began painting her dreams on canvas, including artwork of the creation of a black amber marble, as well as drawings within her sketchbook.

Throughout the Series[]

In "I Dreamed a Dream…", Mel and Maggie Vera find Harry Greenwood looking sadly at the Black Amber Tree where the late Macy Vaughn had last stood. When Maggie was indignant about the destruction of the sisterhood that had overtaken them after all, the Guardian appeared before them and shocked the sisters and Harry with the statement that there was another woman out there somewhere who would help them restore the Power of Three.

In "Not That Girl", Kaela Danso is reprimanded by her boss after the owner of the building next to their repair shop has accused her of painting a graffiti on his wall. She tries to defend her art, but her boss wants to hear no word. Instead, let's her know that he's worried about her well being and her life choices, and that she has to decide whether she wants to be a street artist or continue working as a mechanic and in time, perhaps, get to own the shop. She decides to quit—prioritizing her passion instead of her main source of income and only way of paying the medical bills she got after her cancer treatment.

After quitting, she lets her best friend, Brynn, know about her decision, and she supports her, but not without letting her know her concerns about her financial situation—concerns than Kaela doesn't share. But that's something they can worry about another day, because that day, Brynn had prepared a secret party with their closest friends to celebrate her five years of remission. The party goes well, until Kaela sneaks into her bus, where she's followed by Brynn, who is once again concerned about her well being, she thinks that she might have another one of her recurring headaches, but Kaela tells her that is more than that. She's been having dreams with places that she has never been to and people she has never met. She shows her the drawings that she has made of them—someone carrying a sword, a Victorian manor and two young women—and tells her that she's scared, that she might be going crazy.

The next day, as she drives her bus down the streets of Philadelphia, she almost runs over a woman who stood in the middle of the street. When she steps out of the bus to argue with her, she's startled by the realization that the woman, and the other one she was with were the same women she's been dreaming of for the past six months, Mel and Maggie Vera. Mel, the eldest, notices a symbol drawn on the side of the bus; it's a triquetra, the symbol of the Charmed Ones, and asks Kaela how she knows about that symbol. She doesn't answer and heads back to the bus, but before she does, Maggie touches her and soon after a lightning strikes, reminiscing of that time when the Power of Three was first awakened when Mel and Maggie reunited with Macy.

Understandably freaked out by the situation, Kaela goes back inside her bus and packs some of her things to run a way, but she stumbles one of her paintings, and a tiny black marble, which just seconds before was nothing but a drawing comes out of the painting and rolls down the floor, opening a portal that takes her to the Command Center. There, she notices things she's been drawing, like parts of the rooms and objects found in it, like a green book. She gets scared and leaves the room, but forgets to take her drawings with her, leaving behind the drawing of a fruit bowl, from which a red apple comes rolling out.

Outside of the Command Center, Kaela walks into a place called SafeSpace, Seattle, where she finds an unattended bar with "free" liquor for her to calm her nerves. While she does so, Harry Greenwood catches her and teases her for drinking so early in the day before offering to make her a cup of tea. She accepts and they both engage in a conversation. They introduce each other. She talks about herself, about her Ghanaian father, who loves to drink tea, as he says it transports him to the sea whenever he does it. Their conversation is cut short when the two women that she met in Philadelphia appear and they seem to know the man she's been talking with.

Kaela refuses to listen to anything they have to say until Maggie incepts her with calm. They proceed to ask her how she got into the Command Center, and ask how she found them, only to realize she doesn't know anything about magic. Harry suggests they try the Power of Three Spell to find out whether or not she is a Charmed One, which doesn't work. Walking back into the Command Center, Kaela asks to be sent home. Unexpectedly, they find a paper doll on the floor with the exact likeness of their cousin Joséfina Reyes. Kaela looks at her sketches and finds a half-eaten apple on the floor and assumes she must have eaten an apple that somehow manifested out of her drawings. Mel deduces she has the power of Manifestation, which would be appropriate for the "new third". Their conversation is interrupted by a Negative Space Being that begins to suck things in.

They manage to escape to the Blue Camellia and ask the owner, Roxie, about Kaela's power of manifestation. She deduces that when Joséfina bit the apple and became a paper doll, it created an unstable negative space that manifested into a monster and tells them to find a way to work together before Joséfina bleeds out since Maggie accidentally ripped her arm off when trying to take her away. Kaela, unwilling to be responsible for someone's death because of her, wants to go back to the Command Center and face the monster, despite Mel and Maggie's objections. They return to the Command Center, where Kaela tries to fill the monster with paint from her paint spray, only for it to get sucked in. With nothing to use against the monster, Kaela accepts the existence of magic and her being a witch. She feels responsible for getting Joséfina killed. Maggie tells her she didn't know and they will figure it out together. In that moment, the Power of Three activates and acts as a shield that protects them from the monster. Kaela grabs hold of it while Maggie picks up Joséfina's paper doll form and fills the negative space monster with it. In doing so, they successfully destroy the monster and restore Joséfina to human form. Kaela presents herself as the "new Charmed One".

That night, at Vera Manor, Mel and Maggie explain things to Kaela about their lost sister, Macy, and the blue light that protected them was the Power of Three, a power that only comes from Charmed Ones. They offer to help her find out how she is connected to them. She asks for some time to think about it. Meanwhile, Harry went to Philadelphia to find information on Kaela and found out she was adopted at infancy, with no information about her biological parents, and her full name was "Michaela Danso". Maggie and Mel suspect she may be related to them through their mother.

Later that night, Kaela leaves a note and sneaks out of the manor through the backyard.

In "You Can't Go Home Again", Kaela and Brynn sneak into the impound lot to steal back her bus, which was towed the other day. When the security guard notices them, he threatens to shoot them. Kaela then accidentally makes butterflies materialize from the bus and swarm the man. Kaela uses the distraction to drive the bus out of the impound. This catches notice by a Vittra, who seeks to punish Kaela for using magic in front of humans.

Meanwhile, Mel endlessly tries to convince her to return to Seattle, but Kaela refuses to return any of her messages. The next morning, Kaela tells Brynn that she is a witch and tries to prove it by trying to manifest a butterfly, but it fails. Brynn is led to believe that Kaela's leukemia has returned and made her delusional, prompting Kaela to lie and say she was messing with her. When Mel shows up, she angrily tells her to leave her alone and that she doesn't want to leave her life behind.

At Carlos's party, Kaela is enjoying herself with her friends until butterflies start materializing from her jacket. Brynn watches one of them materialize in front of her and realizes that Kaela is indeed a witch. The Vittra sets off an alarm to send the partygoers away in order to deliver punishment on Kaela, but Mel and Maggie save her in time. When Brynn gets hurt in the midst of the battle, Maggie and Kaela find Jordan Chase and Harry at a cabin outside of Newport. Because the men are trapped inside a bomb-wired cabin, they cannot leave without setting off the explosives. Jordan then suggests Kaela uses her manifestation power to help turn it off. Kaela is hesitant, but Harry guides her through it. She manifests a slingshot and uses it to turn off the alarm. The four of them then return to the Command Center in time to save Brynn.

Kaela decides to move to Seattle to protect the people she loves, while hoping to find out how she is connected to Mel and Maggie. That same night, Mel reveals that she had transported Kaela's bus to Vera Manor and asks for a tour, to which Kaela complies.

In "Unlucky Charmed", Kaela starts taking lessons from Harry, which she doesn't take seriously. While training in a simulation, Kaela pushes Harry's buttons by bringing up Macy and how he trained her, leading to him stabbing her in the simulation and calling her incompetent. She gets kidnapped when she picks up an egg from a lamia and gets trapped in an organ-melting sac before the others save her.

In "Ripples", Kaela picks up Maggie from the police station after she assaulted a man for bothering her. Kaela offers to watch over the Command Center while Mel takes Maggie on a spa day at Ripples. She accidentally breaks the witch board and the Summoning Conch, so she goes to the Blue Camellia to look for help. Dev Banerjee helps Kaela exercise control over her power.

She later gets smoked out of the bar for accidentally repeatedly replicating margaritas. When the witch board alerts both Maggie and Mel in danger, Dev teaches her the Reconfiguration Potion to repair the board. This allows her to go to the spa and help Maggie purify the Enchanted Water Lily that was poisoned by the Tallyman.

In "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Sandwich", when Mel attempts to send them back in time to just before Donnie Hoblinka arrived and took the Blue Camellia hostage, Kaela and Maggie get accidentally sent all the way back to 1926. They pose as performers to stay in the club long enough for Mel to find them and bring them back to the present. She and Maggie bond over this experience. As they sing on stage, they are suddenly interrupted by the Vittra, who has come to kill Camellia, Roxie's wife. Kaela manages to cut off one of Seymour's tentacles and scare the Vittra away. She later figures out that she would be painting the date they are in to alert Mel to their whereabouts with Maggie's alarm spell to get her attention. Kaela and Maggie are successfully retrieved from the past by Mel.

Kaela later uses a Filiation Frame to reveal her birth parents. Shockingly, Mel and Maggie do not recognize the people who appear on the enchanted canvas.

In "The Tallyman Cometh", a gift box from the Tallyman arrives on their porch. Mel and Kaela work to find out what it is to stop the Tallyman from killing hundreds of innocents. After a long series of puzzle solving, with Dev refusing to help due to believing the lies that are spreading across the magical community, Kaela and Mel cast the The Tongue of Babel to hear an unhearable tune from the music box. By singing the song in verse, it reveals tickets to a movie theater. Once there, they realize it was a setup, and the killing is elsewhere. With Maggie's help, they learn that there will be a massive explosion at a memorial service. Upon arrival, Kaela convinces Dev to help her save the memorial. That night, after talking with her adoptive mother, she has sex with Dev.

In "Cats and Camels and Elephants, oh my…", the morning after her one night stand with Dev, Kaela's "mother" mysteriously shows up at Vera Manor. Kaela tries to lie to her about moving across the country for a boy with Dev posing as her boyfriend. She later figures out that her mother is actually Sunny in disguise. They fight, but Sunny manages to cut off her thumb and run off with it. With everyone's help, they learn that Sunny was using Mel's blood, Maggie's hair, and Kaela's bone to resurrect a creature known as the Lost One. They stop the resurrection, and Jordan reattaches Kaela's thumb with his healing power. Kaela and Dev agree to wait for the right moment to go on a date.

In "Unveiled", Kaela goes to meet her biological parents. To everyone's surprise, her parents, Zephyr and Carolyn Vales, are complete mortals. She bonds with them, introducing herself as their long-lost daughter before returning to Seattle.

In "Truth or Cares", Kaela and Dev work together to free Mel, who got trapped in a Pressurized Mumford Trap with Sunny. She later finds out she became a Charmed One with Macy's stem cells from a donation five years prior when she tried to save her dying father. She agrees to go on a date with Dev.

In "Hashing It Out", Kaela and Dev have their first date in Vera Manor, with Mel and Maggie out of the house. She later gets a call from Mel, calling for help, and runs to the Command Center with Dev to save them. With Mel taken hostage by Sunny, Maggie and Kaela go to save her while Dev goes off to find the Blocker who has neutralized Mel and Maggie's powers. Though he succeeds in restoring their powers, he is killed by Sunny. Kaela finds him dead, and Sunny ready to kill her. In a fit of rage, Kaela uses Dev's blood to draw away Sunny's remaining lives, killing her. That night, Kaela hears Dev's singing voice from an enchanted teapot he got for her and crumbles in tears. Mel and Maggie comfort her.

In "Divine Secrets of the O.G. Sisterhood", Kaela is devastated by Dev's death. She leaves the trio, saying they aren't even biological sisters and then leaves the bar and Dev's wake. While driving her bus back to Philadelphia, she meets Ishani, one of the first Charmed Ones, who tells her the history of the first Charmed Ones and how every generation was cursed because of their wrongdoing by burying their sister Inara alive after turning against each other, and turned her into the Lost One. Convinced that she has been chosen by greater forces to protect the world, Kaela goes back to her sisters. Inara resurrects with the Unseen's help and uses the Unity Bowl to steal the Power of Three from the Vera-Danso Charmed Ones. They try to stop Inara, who breaks the bowl after stealing the power and a powerful light engulfs them.

In "Be Kind. Rewind.", Kaela, like every magical creature in the world, has forgotten their past. When she hears Dev's singing voice from the teapot, the trauma and pain snap her out of Inara's mind control. She helps Maggie and Mel snap out of it as well. They learn that all non-magical humans have been turned into plants and trees due to Inara's spell and break into the Command Center to retrieve the Power of Three as well as their individual powers. Unfortunately, Inara figures out their plan and kills Mel before they have a chance to use their powers against her. With Harry and Jordan's sacrifice, Kaela and Maggie escape back to Vera Manor, where Kaela manifests a video tape containing all the information their past selves need to know, and Maggie, having mimicked Mel's power, sends it back to the past before Inara kills them as well.

In "The End Is Never The End", back in the past, Joséfina shows the tape to Mel and Maggie. Mel intercepts Kaela on the road and convinces her to come back with her. They retrieve the Book of Shadows and the Unity Bowl, but learn that Inara is planning something else. Hoping to find out what that might be, Kaela and Mel find Ishani while Jordan and Maggie find Ishta. Ishani is initially unwilling to help, and Kaela challenges her to a bowling match. Unbeknownst to her, Ishani is an excelling bowler. Mel convinces Ishani to help them by relating to her pain.

They resurrect Inara after finding out that she is planning to destroy all magic and magical beings with the Nebron Root Bomb the sisters planted eons ago when they were fighting the first Conqueror. Mel, Maggie, and Kaela are willing to sacrifice themselves for the world before the original Charmed Ones take their place, having reconciled after thousands of years of grudge against one another.

In the three months that followed, the Veras work to empower the magical community and help all the species overcome their differences. Kaela has set up a studio in the backyard shed. Suddenly, they are presented with a mysterious door that leads to another universe where another set of Charmed Ones reside. They step through and find themselves on the doorstep to Halliwell Manor. After some encouragement from Kaela, the trio walks in to face the challenges ahead.

Personality[]

Kaela is an artist with a wild, unpredictable love for life and a one-of-a-kind view of the world that serves her well in her art, which is her life's passion. She is fun, irreverent, impulsive, and strong-willed, and she brings brand-new energy to the Power of Three. Kaela is an unpredictable, edgy, and smart personality; she has a wicked sense of humor but is also flawed. Sometimes she also has insecurities and fears.

Physical Appearance[]

Kaela is a black woman in her twenties . She has black hair worn with blonde braids and brown eyes.

Powers and Abilities[]

If you want to see the development of Kaela's powers throughout the series, go to this page: Kaela Danso/Power Development.

Basic Powers
Active Powers
  • Manifestation: Kaela's primary power as a witch is the ability to manifest her own artwork into reality, whether the depictions are objects or living beings.
    • Artistic Transmutation: The basic usage of the power allows Kaela to transform painted or drawn things into real objects. Manifested objects may vary from regular objects to living beings. She can even replicate the magical properties of objects drawn, such as when she manifested a marble that opened a portal that led to the Command Center. If a living person consumes a manifested object while the user's power is still new and unstable, they become part of the manifestation and transmute into a paper copy of themselves as a consequence, leaving behind unstable negative space that can create a monster, which can only be vanquished by filling the negative space with the afflicted person.
    • Artistic Conjuration: Her power allows her to conjure an object she has drawn as many times as she wants, similar to replication, without the object coming out of the page. The replication effect can be stopped once the drawing is destroyed, or if the user learns to control the power.
Passive Powers
  • The Power of Three: The bond and connection between Kaela and her fellow the Charmed Ones, who are said to be the most powerful trio of witches. Kaela and her sisters use their powers to protect innocent lives and vanquish demons, often invoking their joint "Power of Three" to defeat their enemies. Evidently, there are certain spells that require the Power of Three and cannot be cast by even the most powerful witches, like Charity Callahan. She was able to become Charmed after Macy's death thanks to Macy's stem cells donated during her cancer treatment before the latter even became a Charmed One herself. When Inara drank from the Unity Bowl in the original timeline, Kaela and her sisters lost access to the Power of Three, but over a year later, they reclaimed the Power of Three from her by drinking a pure Black Amber from the Black Amber Tree, which later resulted in Mel's death and the disbandment of their sisterhood. However, this timeline was erased by their past selves changing the present and saving the future.
    • Resistance: Presumably through the Power of Three, the Charmed Ones are able to resist the effects of having their memory erased to a certain extent, allowing the memories to slowly bleed back through.
  • Immunity: Being a witch, Kaela is inherently immune to certain magical abilities (e.g. the Sirens' songs and to Pixie Dust).
Abilities
  • Artistic skills: Kaela is an excellent artist. She likes to paint murals on walls and canvas, and even has sketchbooks. With her power now awakened, she began learning to use her art for her manifestation power.
  • Mechanical skills: Aside from art, Kaela is also prone to mechanical workings, and has worked as a mechanic at an auto shop before quitting her job.

Weaknesses[]

  • Mortality: Despite being a witch, Kaela is still mortal and still has many of the same weaknesses as non-supernatural humans (e.g. age, decapitation, disease, heart-failure, suffocation, snapped neck, etc.). She is also a leukemia survivor.
  • The Destruction of the Sisterhood: Despite the Power of Three being one of her greatest strengths, it is also a burden. Being a Charmed One, she and her sisters are susceptible to the cycle of the sisterhood's destruction, where one Charmed One of each generation dies of unnatural causes due to the Power of Three. Since every generation of Charmed Ones met a tragic end due to the Power of Three, the chances of Kaela going through the process of the destruction of the sisterhood is nigh.
  • Magic: Being a Charmed One does not make them immune to magic. They can be affected by magical powers, spells and such, just like any other.
    • Aura Stripping: By entering Witchness Protection, Kaela's powers can stripped to make her untraceable by magical means, though she would retain the ability to cast spells.

Equipment[]

  • Drawing tools: Kaela carries artistic tools everywhere she goes. She often carries drawing pencils in her pockets in case inspiration strikes.
  • Bus: Kaela lives in a bus, which she painted her own art on and lives in. After relocating to Seattle, Mel magically moved it to Vera Manor to provide her own space.
  • Slingshot: Kaela owns a slingshot which she keeps in her bus, and is very good at aiming with it.
  • Mechanic tools: Aside from art, Kaela also keeps a box of mechanical tools for her vehicle.
  • Original Book of Shadows: The Vera family's tome of knowledge and guidance to witchcraft. It was burned to dust at the beginning of season 2, but Mel was able to temporarily bring it through time from the past after developing the power of Temporal Displacement.
  • Recreated Book of Shadows: Mel has been working on recreating the Book of Shadows with all the knowledge she could remember and learn, and added new spells with Joséfina's help.
  • Book of Elders: The Elders' tome filled with coded information on the magical world, spells and knowledge.

Relationships[]

Friends[]

  • Kaela and Mel Vera: Mel is the first to encourage Kaela to accept her role as a Charmed One, and makes her feel welcomed when she gave in.
  • Kaela and Maggie Vera: Maggie is friendly toward Kaela, but took some time before she started seeing her as a sister due to her fear of repeating the tragic cycle of the Charmed Ones.
  • Kaela and Harry Greenwood: Harry initially had a hard time accepting Kaela as Macy's replacement, and things didn't improve when he started teaching her witchcraft. In the end, they came to terms and warmed up to each other.
  • Kaela and Brynn: Brynn is her best friend, and the first to find out about Kaela being a witch. Brynn is supportive when Kaela decides to move to Seattle, but not before making her promise to keep in touch.

Romantic Life[]

  • Kaela and Dev Banerjee: They first met at the Blue Camellia. Dev was unaware that she was the new Charmed One and Kaela caught him exiting the bathroom with two female patrons, barely zipping up his pants. This annoyed Kaela. The next time they met, Dev offered Kaela his help after overhearing her asking for Roxie. However, she turned him down outright until he showed her his unique affinity for music in magic. He was also able to help her learn how to better control her manifesting power, effectively duplicating a glass of martini before multitudes of martinis began to appear. Duncan then blew out Kaela's candle, sending her back to the Command Center, along with Dev who was holding her hand. Dev realized that she was the new Charmed One, who he had dismissed as a rumor. Even though Dev was attracted to Kaela, he put distance between them after that until he realized he couldn't fight their connection resulting in them kissing and having sex. She wanted it to be a one night stand, but admitted to wanting a date when the time for them was right. The two of them soon began a budding romance, until the untimely death of Dev at the hands of Sunny when he refused to back down to the Unseen. After coming across Dev's body, Kaela avenged him by using his blood and counting down the remainder of Sunny's lives. Later that night in the Vera Manor, she broke down, resulting in Maggie and Mel comforting her when she opened his gift to her and heard his voice coming from the enchanted teapot.

Studies and Professions[]

Professions[]

4x1 Kaela as Mechanic
  • Mechanic: Kaela worked as a mechanic in Philadelphia, and according to Sal, there was no better mechanic than her. She loved her job so much that she was not bothered by the less-than-ideal working conditions, such as the fact that they only had cubbies instead of their own lockers. Along with repairing stuff, she also had no problem dealing with suppliers, and her boss was even thinking that one day she could own the place. Nevertheless, her art comes first and after an argument with Sal, she decided to quit her job as she was not willing to repaint her work on the wall and apologize to the owner of the building.
  • Artist: Kaela set up a studio in the back shed and became an artist.

Appearances[]

Trivia[]

  • On July 29, 2021, the casting for her character was announced.[6] She was later renamed from Taryn to Kaela.
  • Kaela Danso is based off of Paige Matthews from the original series, but merely in being the replacing Charmed One after the death of the eldest sister.
    • Kaela's power is Manifestation, while Paige's power was Telekinetic Orbing.
    • Similar to her counterpart, Paige, Kaela is also an artist and was also adopted as a baby. Paige also used her power through her own art once when she managed to summon a ring by focusing her power on a sketch.
    • Just like Paige, Kaela did not have the same initials as her sister Charmed Ones when it came to her legal surname, as they were both adopted. In Paige's case, her initials were P.M., while the sisters' initials were P.H., and in Kaela's case, her initials were M.D., and the sisters' were M.V.
      • Through their biological parents, had they inherited their last names, the initials of the last names would match the initials of their sisterhoods'.
    • Unlike Paige, Kaela is not blood-related to Mel and Maggie.
    • Unlike Paige, who was the youngest sister, Kaela is the second-youngest.
    • Unlike Paige, Kaela was a mortal first before becoming a witch (presumably a demon-witch, unlike Paige, who was a Whitelighter-witch).
    • In the original, there was also a male witch named Kevin who, like Kaela, was an artist with a similar power called Thought Projection.
    • Also, in the original series, Wyatt Halliwell had a similar power named Projection and was also on the run to become Charmed.
  • Macy, Kaela, and Paige from the original fulfill all three parties in the order of their sisterhoods. Macy is the eldest, Kaela the middle, and Paige is the youngest.
    • While Paige is the third in her trio, she is also the fourth in the sisterhood overall.
  • Kaela is the first Charmed One in the show who has initials different from her sisters, as her sister's initials are "M.V." and Kaela's are "K.D.". However, Kaela is an abbreviation or hypocorism for Michaela, which would make her actual initials "M.D.".
    • Additionally, if she hadn't been given up at birth, her surname would've been "Vales," which would have fit into the V pattern of the Vaughn-Vera Charmed Sisterhood, and her initials would be "M.V." (provided that her biological parents would have named her with 'M').
    • Before the adoption, Kaela was labeled as a "Jane Doe" on her certification of birth.[4] John or Jane Doe is a name that is given when a person's true identity is unknown.
  • Kaela is bisexual.[7]
  • Her chosen name, Kaela, is quite similar to the name of another former Charmed One, Kayla Martinez, mentioned in the Book of Elders.
  • Like her biological father, Kaela is also an artist.
  • Although not officially canon, Carrie Williams tweeted that she believed Kaela is the Sister of Space, similar to Macy, since both their powers occupy physical space.
    • If that is considered canon, it can lead to the assumption that the Vera sisters needed specifically a Space witch to replace Macy. However, based on the powers of Ishta, Inara, and Ishani used, the connection may not play a role at all, plus the fact that the creation of the Power of Three seemingly had nothing to do with their individual powers. Kaela's connection to Space, if canon, may be just a coincidence or the fact that she gained her magic from Macy's stem cells.
  • Due to Macy donating her stem cells, that would technically make Kaela a demon-witch, though it is yet to be seen.
    • Joey Falco tweeted "The plan was to explore Kaela's potential demon side in a Season 5". Later adding in a reply that the writers hadn't even discussed what Kaela's powers were going to be when asked if they would be the same as Macy's.[8]
      • On addressing the fact that Macy's DNA mutated Kaela, Joey's tweet implied that Kaela's magical genes manifested because of who she is as a person, which was also explained in 4x11, that she was chosen to be the fourth Charmed One, from a higher power like fate, despite Macy saving other lives due to her donation.[9]
  • Out of the Vera-Vaughn-Danso Charmed Ones, Kaela is the only one who has developed only one power, as Mel has both Temporal and Molecular Manipulation, Maggie has Foresight and empathic-based abilities, and Macy has telekinetic-based abilities and pyrokinesis and a few others from her demon half.
    • However, Kaela and Macy, as witches, have both developed only one witchly power, since Macy's fire power comes from her demon side. If the show had continued, it would have been revealed that Kaela would also be part demon and would develop new powers from her demon side.
  • In the original series, there had been cases where beings had copied the Charmed Ones' powers through blood transfusion, similar to Kaela's stem cell transfusion from Macy. However, unlike with Kaela, none of them had developed a new power based on their own personalities.
    • In "Astral Monkey", Dr. Curtis Williamson had experimented with the Charmed Ones blood on monkeys, which granted them their powers and later on himself, and gained the powers of all three of them, which drove him insane.
    • In "Repo Manor", three demons, Pilar, Phoenix and Patra, stated that they had infused the Charmed Ones' blood into their own systems and successfully replicated their powers.
  • Kaela's zodiac sign is Sagittarius.[4]
  • Kaela has an affinity for painting butterflies. Butterflies generally symbolize renewal, transformation, change, and freedom.
    • For Kaela, they may symbolize her defeating cancer, as a form of renewal and freedom. It can further symbolize her transformation into a witch and new life as a witch and Charmed One, or even the renewal of an old Charmed One, Macy, into a new one.
    • Ironically, Kaela's painted butterflies on her bus and her handmade butterfly patches on her jacket were transformed into real butterflies when she came into her power.
  • Kaela wasn't presented with the 48-hour opportunity window.
