The relationship between Charmed One Mel Vera and Circadian Roxie.

History[]

Mel Vera and Roxie met sometime after the former's older half-sister, Macy Vaughn, died, and ex-girlfriend, Ruby Malone, broke up with her. She was introduced to the bar, the Blue Camellia through connections and has since visited the place frequently for random one-night stands. Roxie, being the bar's owner, is aware of everything that happens in the bar.

In "Not That Girl", the newly-formed the Vera-Danso Charmed Ones escaped a Negative Space Being by lighting a match that brought them to the Blue Camellia. Roxie immediately announces Mel's appearance, telling the patrons to hide their girlfriends before going into discussion about Kaela Danso's newly-awakened powers and what may have manifested from it. She also advises them to figure things out before their cousin Joséfina Reyes bleeds out (Maggie Vera accidentally ripped her arm off after Joséfina became a paper doll).

In "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Sandwich", the Vera-Danso Charmed Ones come to Roxie for answers regarding Harry Greenwood's whereabouts after they realized they haven't seen him in a week. Donnie Hoblinka ambushes the bar, demanding the Charmed Ones pay for their "crimes". Mel sends both Maggie and Kaela back in time to subdue Donnie but accidentally sends them back to 1926. Mel and Roxie have no choice but to work together. They walk through secret passageways to pass by Donnie unnoticed as they work out a plan. Roxie first tries to blow out the candles to send the patrons to safety or send Donnie away, but the candles are all enchanted - any candle that gets blown out kills a patron. Roxie later tries to attack Donnie with a sword, only to be caught off guard by the bartender Sunny, who was working with Donnie in secret. Mel willingly surrenders, but then an alarm goes off and when Mel sees a message on the paintings, she realizes it to be the work of her sisters and retrieves them from 1926. They return in time to stop Donnie and Sunny.

Roxie gifts Mel her late wife's perfume, saying it smells good on her.

In "Unveiled", Mel brings Ruby Malone to the Blue Camellia. The patrons start a riot as soon as they see her, many calling her a terrorist while others defend her and her sisters. This forces Roxie to flip the emergency switch that sends everyone away, something she never had to do before, and blames Mel for the trouble. Ruby comes to her defense. They work together to protect Ruby from her demonic ex-stepfather, Earl. After a hard battle, they finally succeed in vanquishing him. Ruby asks Mel about Roxie as she senses a spark between them.

In "Hashing It Out", Mel and Roxie are revealed to have hooked up in her office at the bar. Roxie states that it is only one time. Later, Roxie finds out her wife had left her while her bouncer and adoptive son, Duncan, had lied about it instead of telling her the truth. In the meantime, Mel and her sisters suffer a loss after the Unseen broke into the Command Center to steal the Unity Bowl. After the battle, Mel goes to Roxie. Being too emotionally distraught, Roxie kisses Mel and they have sex.

In "Divine Secrets of the O.G. Sisterhood", Dev Banerjee's friends hold a wake for him at the Blue Camellia. Roxie asks Mel to help her find the Beebops who have gone missing. When Mel asks why she cares about them, she admits to needing a band and they needed a home. Mel then asks if that was the only reason, and she confesses to finding them ridiculously adorable, something she intends to keep to herself. They find one Beebop dead in her house, and follow the blood trail to find the other one, Lloyd, who turns out to be the murderer and a follower of the Unseen.

After incapacitating Lloyd, Mel goes to help Maggie while Roxie prepares for her seven-year slumber.

In "The End Is Never The End", where everything that happened was altered, Mel finds out from a videotape that Roxie is planning to go to slumber without saying goodbye, and confronts her about it after telling her about the Beebops.

Near the end of the episode, Mel finds Roxie just before her slumber begins and offers to take over the bar in order to provide a safe haven for magical beings. While she is uncertain how she would feel in seven years, she wishes to make sure that Roxie always has a home to come back to. They gladly kiss before Roxie goes to sleep.

Trivia[]

  • According to Joey Falco, this relationship has not ended and in some hypothetical future they will reconnect. Jeffrey Lieber also added that if season 5 had taken place, they would have found a way to wake up Roxie bypassing her seven-year cycle and would also have brought back some of Mel's exes to confront them with Roxie.[1]
    • Most likely, one of these exes was going to be Niko Hamada because she was supposed to return in the fifth season as Choochi.
    • It is also possible that Ruby Malone was going to be part of this conflict, as Bethany Brown confirmed her character's participation in the fifth season during the filming of Unlucky Charmed.
