A Necrolighter is the self-appointed designation given by Harry Greenwood for himself after giving up his Whitelighter powers in order to perform Necromancy.
History[]
In "The Tallyman Cometh", it was revealed that, after Harry had taken the magical mushroom from the Forbidden Gnome Forest and left for a short time, he had given up his powers as a Whitelighter in exchange for the ability to perform Necromancy in a desperate attempt to reach Macy Vaughn again. Harry also tried to talk to the late Donnie Hoblinka in the Veil, but nothing came of it.

Powers and Abilities[]
- Basic Powers
- Spell Casting: The ability to cast spells and perform rituals.
- Active Powers
- Necromancy: A branch of divination that allows the user to gain information through the deceased.
- Mediumship: The ability to communicate with the deceased. Harry is shown to be able to channel this power through the hands, emitting a dark magenta, black and ash gray smoke-like energy (reminiscent of his former healing capabilities) through his body and over a corpse, before going into an unconscious trance that allows him to astral project into the Veil, a realm where spirits with unfinished business reside. Upon entering the Veil, a set of magical footprints appear on the ground, acting as his passage back to the living world. When returning, if a spirit is touching him, he may bring them into the land of the living in a physical form. However, as this is not a form of resurrection, it's a form of spirit summoning, and so can cause instability to magic.
Known Necrolighters[]
Trivia[]
- It is unclear if there are anymore Necrolighters apart from Harry. It can be presumed that Harry is the only one, though this is never directly specified. It's most likely that other people had also eaten one of the mushrooms before to go through the journey Harry was taken on, since this trade between Roxie and Harry in "The Tallyman Cometh" seemed like an appropriate trade-off. It's entirely unknown how Harry was able to give up his powers as a Whitelighter in exchange for his Necromancy power after he consumed the mushroom and was teleported away to a destination offscreen. He returned in "Cats and Camels and Elephants, oh my…" having already obtained his new "Necrolighter" powers.
- It is unknown what other powers that a Necrolighter may have, if there are any others at all.
- According to Joey Falco[1], a Necrolighter doesn't have the power to raise the dead like a Necromancer.
- In the original series, the Charmed Ones would regularly summon spirits into corporeal forms through spells, like "To Summon the Dead" or the spell "To Call Blood to Blood". Similarly, in the rebooted series, Harry can bring spirits into the real world, when he's touching them while leaving the Veil. However, the summoned spirit can not stay in the real world forever and must be returned into the afterlife for the balance of the world.
- The inspiration of the writers making the term "Necrolighter" being related to Whitelighter is possibly based on Harry's ultimate decision to help beings connect with their deceased loved ones, acting as a guide and messenger to the living and the spirits of the deceased, in order to help them get closure and move on. This can be paralleled to a Whitelighter's role of acting as messengers between witches and the Elders as well as guide witches with their duties. While this is unspecified in-universe, as the term was introduced way before Harry's decision to use this power to help, it is possible that the writers' inspiration and intention may have been that since the introduction of the term. It is also possible that this term was created for the simple fact that Harry was a Whitelighter who gave up his powers to communicate with the dead, hence "Necrolighter" to differentiate him from a Necromancer.
