Omon was a magical being predating known civilization. A highly narcissistic being, he preyed upon unsuspecting individuals, hypnotizing them into attacking and/or killing their loved ones under the guise of a twisted form of "love" for him. At some point, the Perfecti imprisoned him within the Tomb of Chaos for many thousands of years. In 2021, Omon managed to escape through a dimensional rift. He met his end when he was vanquished by making contact with his reflection in a potion laced with poisonous yew berries.

History[]

Early Life[]

Omon's origin remains shrouded in mystery, predating known civilization, and his very existence was considered a myth. Some even speculate that his last iteration served as the inspiration for Narcissus in Greek mythology.

This enigmatic being vanished for millennia, having been imprisoned within the Tomb of Chaos by the Perfecti. However, in May 2021, Omon managed to escape, finding his way into Seattle, Washington through a dimensional rift.

Throughout the Series[]

In "Yew Do You", Omon encounters Julie Hoffman as she waits for her boyfriend Jason outside a gas station. Responding with "Mepte ama," a mystical orange wave of energy emanates from his mouth, hypnotizing Julie. Subsequently, when Jason exits the gas station, Julie runs him over with the car. The Vera-Vaughn Charmed Ones notice Omon after viral videos of people harming their loved ones surface online. Later, Omon senses Julie's recovery and goes to SafeSpace, Seattle to kill her. Confronted by the Charmed Ones on a rooftop, he briefly ensnares Macy Vaughn and attempts to hypnotize her into forcing Mel and Maggie Vera over the edge. However, Macy breaks free, and the Charmed Ones vanquish Omon with a potion containing poisonous yew berries, presumably freeing his other victims from his control.

Physical Appearance[]

Omon was a handsome white man, appearing to be in his late thirties or early forties, with deep blue eyes and dark, wavy hair. He also wore a mustache and a small goatee beard. When Omon harnessed his powers, his blue eyes would transform into a vibrant orange hue.

Powers and Abilities[]

Active Powers
  • Hypnosis: Omon possessed the ability to induce a hypnotic trance in others, compelling them to sacrifice their loved ones in the twisted name of "love" for him. He activated this power through the utterance of the words "mepte ama." He was shown to be able to hypnotize mortals and witches.
  • Limited Shapeshifting: Omon had the ability to make his eyes glow with an orange light as he used his powers.
  • Sensing: Omon could sense when his victims broke free from his trance, demonstrated when he immediately detected Julie's release. This ability also allowed him to locate his victims, as seen when he tracked Julie to SafeSpace.
  • Smoking: Omon had the ability to teleport in a puff of smoke.

Appearances[]

Trivia[]

  • Omon predates human civilization, existing as a more ancient entity. In the comics connected to the original series, the Charmed Ones confronted the Old Ones, a formidable race of primordial demons that predated written language.
  • It can be presumed that Omon was the mysterious humanoid being that escaped through the dimensional rift at the conclusion of "You Can't Touch This". However, it is not explicitly stated or confirmed, especially since it was later shown that the Tomb was inhabited by other human-like prisoners, such as the Tentacle Creature and the Doppelgänger. It should be noted, though, that this was when the rifts from the Tomb were first beginning to open and also before the rifts began to open more frequently. The only Tomb monster that the Vera-Vaughn sisters had faced up to this point had been the "Chupa-Alma" in the aforementioned episode, and this mysterious being was released from the Tomb soon afterwards during the conclusion of the episode. It leads one to believe that this being was meant to be Omon, since he appears in the subsequent episode.
  • While the meaning of "mepte" in his phrase "Mepte ama" remains unclear, it is speculated that "mepte" could be a Latin-based word, given that "ama" is also a Latin word. "Mepte" might be a combination of the pronoun "mē," meaning "me," and the suffix "-pte," which is rarely used and indicates emphasis or urgency, particularly in archaic or poetic contexts. With "ama" serving as an imperative form of "love," the phrase possibly translates to the command "Love me" with an implied emphasis on "me."
    • The validity of this etymology of the word "mepte" is questionable, lacking substantial sources and should not be considered definitive. It is also possible that "mepte" has a different meaning or language origin altogether. Additionally, the fact that it is found in archaic and poetic contexts and it is rare, adds to the uncertainty. It does, however, match the character of Omon, as he is both narcissistic to use emphasis on the pronoun "me," and he's ancient enough to possibly use this archaic form.
  • There is a possibility that Omon belonged to some ancient demonic lineage, given the demonic-like nature of his displayed abilities.
  • Contrary to what is stated on the reboot, the myth of Narcissus does not include the goddess Artemis, but Nemesis or Aphrodite, and the yew tree is not connected to the story. Narcissus, described as a handsome young man, due to his arrogance, would often not reciprocate the love and affection he received by others, with the most notable variation of the myth, where rejected the nymph Echo who approached him, and left her heartbroken. As an act of revenge, Nemesis or Aphrodite made him fall in love with his own reflection, in a pool of water, and Narcissus committed suicide, since he couldn't fulfill his desire. In other variations, he fell in love with his reflection on his own, without any godly interference, and either fell into the water and drowned or he obsessively stared at his reflection until he died of starvation. In all variations, his body disappeared, leaving narcissus flowers behind.
  • It is unclear if Omon's hypnotism worked on male individuals, as he was only shown hypnotizing females.
