— Harry on Shapeshifters[src]

Shapeshifters are a powerful class of demons that can mimic the forms of anyone they've touched.

Overview[]

Shapeshifters are known for getting what they want. Harry Greenwood describes them as "singular in focus and relentless in pursuit". Mel Vera was forced to use a history-rewriting spell just to protect Niko Hamada from one.

Powers[]

Active Powers
  • Shapeshifting: The ability to change one's form and appearance. Unlike Imposter Demons, Shapeshifters need to touch another person's body to be able to assume their form, clothes included.
    • Voice Manipulation: The ability to alter one's voice. Shapeshifters are able to mimic the voice of whomever's form that they have taken.
  • Smoke Form: The ability to take the form of a cloud of smoke, allowing them to travel through the air. Shapeshifters are also surrounded by a cloud of smoke while shapeshifting in between forms. While in his smoke form, Hunter Caine was even able to sift through the ground, allowing him to invade Trip Bailey's grave and copy his form.
    • Flight: The power to defy gravity and propel oneself in any direction through the air. While in their smoke form, Shapeshifters are able to travel through the air.
  • Supernatural Strength: The ability to possess greater strength than is naturally possible. Hunter Caine was able to lift Mel off the ground singlehandedly.
  • Supernatural Speed: The power to move at speeds that are much greater than what is naturally possible. While in their smoke form, this ability could provide effects similar to short range teleportation.
  • Supernatural Agility: The ability to be more agile than what is naturally possible.
  • Deflection: The power to redirect magical attacks aimed at oneself back to their users.

Trivia[]

  • In the original series, Shapeshifters were low-level demons that mainly acted as spies for more powerful members of the evil hierarchy. Also, unlike the ones of the reboot, they did not need to touch someone or something in order to take their form.
  • Since Shapeshifters are a particular type of demons, it is unclear how Hunter Caine became one of these type when his father was not a Shapeshifter. It could be possible that Hunter had inherited his mother's type, as he was a full demon and thus had two demonic parents. Another possibility is that Alastor had Shapeshifter ancestors, and, even though he wasn't one of them, he passed their genes on to his son. However, it is also possible that, like witches, demons might have individual powers that do not all stem from their bloodlines, and thus, like witches, Hunter may be categorized by his shapeshifting power, similarly to how "empaths" and "time witches" are called such because of their respective powers.
