Charmed Wiki

Sunny was a Nekomata Cat who worked at the Blue Camellia as a bartender before going on the run after she assisted Donnie Hoblinka with holding the club hostage. She was a member of the Unseen, a group of rogue magical beings who looked to resurrect "the Lost One" in their mission to eliminate the Charmed Ones and claim power for lesser magical creatures. After killing Dev Banerjee, Sunny was vanquished by Kaela Danso who used Dev's blood on her hands to manifest away Sunny's remaining lives by drawing the tally marks on a window.

History[]

Early Life[]

The majority of Sunny's early life is unknown. However, before she worked at the Blue Camellia, she lived and was employed in the human world. One night after work was finished, Sunny was walking home when she noticed she was being trailed by the Faction. Sunny tried to evade them but was run off the road and killed—taking away one of her lives. She went into hiding afterwards and grew bitter towards the Charmed Ones for taking so long to take down the faction, as many people she knew disappeared and died because of them. This caused her to join the Unseen.[2]

Throughout the Series[]

In "You Can't Go Home Again", Jordan Chase and Harry Greenwood came to the club looking for information about the coin and Annie's death. Initially, Sunny was not impressed with them and rudely sent them away, but at Roxie's direction on the phone, she still gave them a tip on the leprechaun, Frank.

In "Unlucky Charmed", Sunny, at Roxie's orders, made a Malleable Maven for Harry.

In "Ripples", Sunny rudely told Kaela Danso that Roxie was not in when she asked about the latter.

In "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Sandwich", Sunny helped Donnie Hoblinka take the club hostage after she tipped him off that the Vera-Danso Charmed Ones were there. She hexed the candles to ensure the death of anyone who tried to leave. She injured Roxie by shooting the Circadian with one of her claws. Later, after Mel Vera was able to retrieve Maggie Vera and Kaela from the past, Maggie managed to neutralize Sunny and Donnie with the Egyptian Nightshade that she had gotten from 1926. They were both arrested, and Duncan was shown leading them off with their hands cuffed/tied in an unknown direction.

In "The Tallyman Cometh", it was revealed that Sunny had escaped, but before that she killed Donnie to keep him quiet. Later, she came to the banquet hall where Kaela and Mel were talking to the Tallyman and took the napkin that had Mel's blood on it.

In "Cats and Camels and Elephants, oh my…", Sunny impersonated Evelyn Danso, Kaela's mother, and pretended to be impressed with Dev Banerjee's knowledge about Ghanaian singers. She ate a bird standing on the windowsill. Kaela managed to figure out she was an imposter, but by then she has already poisoned Dev. Kaela used The Full Disclosure to reverse Sunny's glamour. They fight briefly until Sunny cuts off her thumb and runs away with it. In Northern Iran, Sunny prepared the potion to resurrect the Lost One, adding Mel's blood, Maggie's hair and Kaela's thumb. The trio locate her and stop the ritual. Sunny fights with Maggie, who managed to unwittingly mimic Sunny's claws and kill her with them. Sunny resurrected sometime later, but was devastated by her failure. The Lost One reassured her that there would be other ways to resurrect him.

In "Truth or Cares", Sunny was trapped inside a shrunken house with Mel which was turned into a snow globe. When asked by Mel why she hated the Charmed Ones, Sunny revealed that the Faction had found out about her and killed her in a hit and run, resulting in Sunny having to leave her old life behind and watching so many people she knew not be as lucky as her. She supposedly softened to Mel's idea of the magical community coming together, but rejected that idea almost immediately, after they were freed from the trap by Kaela and Dev. She took Mel as a hostage and moved toward the portal to get out of the Command Center, but Kaela saved Mel by manifesting a dagger into Mel's hand which Sunny yielded to and made her escape through the portal.

In "Hashing It Out", Sunny was part of the Unseen's mission to infiltrate the Command Center. Thanks to the careless actions of one of her team mates, she was briefly killed by Seymour when he was accidentally released from the Vittra's Bag before reviving herself almost immediately. She was quite pissed off and annoyed over losing a life very unnecessarily. Soon after, Mel and Maggie entered the Center and discovered the Unseen there. Sunny gave orders to chase them. Sunny later tracked Mel down in Ruby's office and cut the phone line as Mel left a brief and dire warning to Kaela. Sunny killed a guy on her team who was willing to compromise with Mel. She then sent a video message to Maggie threatening to kill Mel if the Unity Bowl wasn't brought to her. Sunny later encountered Dev and gives him one chance to leave as this is not his fight, handing him a pack of matches from the Blue Camellia. He refuses, leaving Sunny to kill him. Kaela, hearing his screams, comes across his body and was approached by Sunny. Utilizing her knowledge of Sunny's tally marks and Dev's blood on her hands, Kaela began to draw tally marks on a nearby indoor window and killed Sunny by manifesting away her remaining lives before the latter being could strike.

In "Divine Secrets of the O.G. Sisterhood", Sunny was mentioned by Lloyd saying that she had opened up his eyes and recruited him into the Unseen after being confronted over murdering his band mate and housemate, Pip.

Personality[]

Sunny was shown to be cold, uncaring, vengeful, and ruthless to the point that she would kill one of her own to make a point. Similar to cats, she was also known to purr, hiss, and growl.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

Basic Powers
Active Powers
  • Claw Extension: The ability to extend claws from one's fingers. Additionally, Sunny was also able to shoot her claws at targets and regrow them at will. In "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Sandwich", she was able to impale Roxie through the chest. The claw was long and sharp enough to piece her heart.
  • Supernatural Strength: The ability to be stronger than what is naturally possible for a human being. Sunny managed to forcefully push a door open that was blocked by a chair, which resulted into the chair breaking.
  • Supernatural Agility: The ability to possess greater agility, speed, and balance than what is naturally possible for a human being. As a Nekomata, Sunny had enhanced flexibility, agility, durability, reflexes, and cat instincts, which could all help her with fighting.
Inactive Powers
  • Self-Resurrection: As a Nekomata Cat, Sunny had a total nine lives, meaning she had the ability to resurrect herself upon dying. The number of lives that she had was represented by a series of tally marks of her wrist. At some point in the last few years, Sunny was killed in a hit and run by the Faction, taking one of her lives. As of Cats and Camels and Elephants, oh my…, after being killed by Maggie Vera, she had five lives left. In Hashing It Out, Sunny lost her sixth life when she was accidentally killed by the deadly tentacle unwittingly unleashed from a Vittra's bag on her by her own team mate. Later, after killing Dev Banerjee and threatening Kaela Danso's life, her four remaining lives were manifested away by Kaela who used her blood soaked fingers to draw the tally marks on a nearby window.

Abilities[]

  • Feline Physiology: Due to her animalistic wild instincts and her durability, Sunny was also able to swallow small animals like birds whole without chewing.

Weaknesses[]

  • Mortality: Nekomatas, seemingly, have all the weaknesses of a typical mortal, as they can be killed as easily. Additionally, as they can live more than one life, when they reach their last life, they have no more chance to escape death.
  • Magic: Nekomatas are still susceptible to the effects of magic.
    • Manifestation: Due to the fact that all of a Nekomata's lives are represented by tattoo-like tally marks on their wrist, a manifesting witch can easily draw them all away, simply by drawing the lines necessary until they have all turned red.

Appearances[]

Trivia[]

  • While Sunny is obviously portrayed as some sort of cat-like being, it is never revealed that she is specifically a Nekomata onscreen. Joey Falco revealed that she was a Nekomata through his Twitter account.[1]
