Witch Way Out is the seventh episode of the third season of Charmed and the forty-eighth episode of the series overall. It aired on March 21, 2021.
Synopsis[]
REMEMBER THE TIME – The Charmed Ones (Melonie Diaz, Madeleine Mantock and Sarah Jeffery) take on the Tomb of Chaos while navigating ever greater challenges in their professional lives. Also starring Rupert Evans and Jordan Donica.
Plot[]
This episode starts with all three girls waking up separately in their house but knowing something is not right. Macy and Mel find each other and then go to find Maggie, but she does not know who they are. They realize Maggie has been there longer than them, and the house had made her lose her memory. There is a light and loud noise that Maggie calls the “tik boom.” Maggie’s memory is jogged when she sees a lunchbox with Macy's name on it even though it is misspelled. A memory of Maggie giving the lunch to Mel plays out so all the girls can see it. They realize there are glitches in the house, and if they find the glitches, they can get memories of what happened back so they can figure out what is going on.
They see more of the memory and remember that they were trying to figure out a way into the demon dimension called the “Tomb of Chaos.” They think they might have gotten in and are there now. They can see enough of a memory to see the spell that got them there and think they can say it and get out.
A portal opens up, and they go through and think they are out of the demon dimension. Mel sees a picture of her, Maggie, Macy, and her mom and realizes it is a glitch and is still in the demon dimension. Maggie remembers a quote from a tape she was listening to “the fog is an illusion. Walk through it, and everything becomes clear”. She realizes they all have to concentrate on seeing the actual demon dimension instead of the illusion. They can do this and see the dimension and see away to get out, but the Chupa Alma is in front of it.
Maggie thinks it is all a glitch since they already killed it. They run through it and wind up back in the real world. Maggie realizes the tik boom were demons escaping, and many demons must have escaped since she heard it so many times. In the end, Jordan comes into the house and says there is a huge monster outside.

Spells[]
- Tomb of Chaos Accessing Spell
- Used by the Charmed Ones to access the magical prison dimension.
- Babylonian Spell to Seal a Rift
- Used by the Charmed Ones to seal off the rift from the prison dimension.
Powers[]
- Reality Warping: The Tomb of Chaos altered its prisoners' perceptions of reality to keep them trapped inside.
- Illusion Casting: The Tomb could create illusions to fool its prisoners.
- Memory Erasure: The Tomb could make the prisoners forget who they are and everything else if they lack a strong enough object to keep their memories intact.
Trivia[]
- This is the only episode of the series where no character has used a magical power, however Macy did attempt to use her telekinesis.
- A manifestation of the Chupa-Alma appears in this episode. It was last seen in You Can't Touch This. It is unclear how the sisters knew that the manifestation was just an illusion rather than simply another monster of this species confronting them. It doesn't make much sense that the sisters would automatically assume it's a glitch or illusion.
- Marisol Vera was seen in a photograph in this episode. She was last seen in a flashback in Don't Look Back in Anger.
- Swan was mentioned. She was last seen in Yew Do You.
Answered Questions from Previous Episode(s)[]
- Where is the “Magical Alcatraz”?
- It exists in an alternate dimension, which can only be accessed through a rift.
Unanswered Questions[]
- Who created the Tomb of Chaos?
- What monster did Jordan Chase escape from?
References to the Original Charmed[]
- The original series had an episode with a similar title, Witch Way Now?.
- The Vera sisters' perception of reality inside the Tomb of Chaos is similar to the episode "Brain Drain" from the original series when the Source taps into Piper's brain to alter her perception of reality and persuade her to give up her powers (along with those of her sisters').
- A photograph of the sisters is placed onto the mantel just like it was in the original series.
- The episode follows a non-linear structure, in which the characters have there memories altered, similarly to "Forget Me...Not".
Production Notes[]
- The episode was watched by 0.32 million U.S. viewers.
Quotes[]
Macy:: It's the perfect prison. The inmates don't try to get out because they don't even realize they're trapped. It's like our memories were used to build this place, somehow.
Maggie: Classic horror movie role. I like it.
