Witchful Thinking is the eleventh episode of the third season of Charmed and the fifty-second episode of the series overall. It aired on May 7, 2021.

Synopsis[]

CAUSE AND EFFECT – The Charmed Ones (Melonie Diaz, Madeleine Mantock, Sarah Jeffery) go in search of an ancient relic that will help them cure their magical allergy but find themselves unprepared for the outcome. Josefina (Mareya Salazar) makes an important decision for her future. Also starring Rupert Evans, Poppy Drayton and Jordan Donica.

  • Enchanted Egg: A special relic found by the Charmed Ones in an attempt to cure their allergy. The egg was successful in helping to cure the allergy. However, it came with the price: it granted all of the Charmed Ones' wishes at the expense of other people. Macy and Harry were able to finally enjoy time together, but after meeting a sweet, elderly married couple, inadvertently caused the elderly man to have a heart attack. Mel received a promotion at the expense of two other professors that were more qualified, causing them to snub her. Maggie was granted the internship, but only because Antonio had been in a horrific car accident and failed to show up. After they returned the egg to its rightful place, the allergy was reactivated and all of their "wishes" were undone.

  • The title of the episode is similar to the term of the formation of beliefs based on what might be pleasing to imagine, rather than on evidence, rationality, or reality.
  • Jordan Chase and Abigael Jameson-Caine return in this episode. They were last seen in No Hablo Brujeria.
  • Dr. Lawrence returns in this episode. He was last seen in You Can't Touch This.
  • Antonio Garcia was mentioned. He was last seen in Witch Way Out.
  • Ruby was mentioned. She was last seen in Private Enemy No. 1.
  • Joséfina Reyes manages to unlock her powers in this episode, but the method that unlocked them has proved some confusion towards fans. Two suggestions were eventually brought up:
    • The Enchanted Egg was the catalyst that caused Josefina's powers to activate, but when she gave up her desire for a noble cause, her Wiccan nature allowed her powers to remain even after the egg was returned and its effects reversed.
    • Josefina's ritual to manifest her powers worked earlier, and therefore her power did not disappear when the girls returned the egg to its place.

    • Yes, albeit temporarily.
  • What is the connection between the infection, the tablet and the ancient monsters?
    • The Perfecti entombed the monsters in a prison dimension and created the infection for anyone who would try to open it. They also created the tablet as instruction manual in case anyone would need it.
  • Will Joséfina succeed in gaining her witch powers?

References to the Original Charmed[]

  • The Charmed Ones' wishes coming true connects with the heart's desire. In the original, the demon Gith trapped the Charmed Ones in separate pocket dimensions created out of their personal desires with a twist to make it deadly. In addition, a genie once granted each sister's wish that ultimately brought misfortune to them, prompting them to return the genie to its bottle in order to reverse the wishes.
  • When Maggie sees her therapist, she talks in euphemisms, when referring to her supernatural-related issues. Piper and Leo also did this, when they went to see a marriage counselor.

  • The episode was watched by 0.36 million U.S. viewers.
  • Starting with this episode, the show once again airs on Fridays like the previous season. The timeslot has also been moved back up to 8 pm instead of 9 pm.
